Mayoral Candidate Forum Invitation

The Kinsey Park Neighborhood Association invites you to attend a Mayoral Candidate Forum, Thursday, February 9, 2006, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 13200 West Greenfield Avenue, lower level (via stairs). This event is free and open to Brookfield residents. Please spread the word and bring your friends and neighbors.

We are asking Brookfield residents to submit their questions as soon as possible for this candidate forum by U.S. mail or email. You may send in your questions even if you cannot attend (contact information should be included but will not be used). After the forum, selected questions and answers will be posted here on the website.

Elm Grove resident Mary Wacker, will moderate our forum. She is the head Forensics/debate coach at Brookfield East High School. The candidates will be given the opportunity to answer the same question. This is your chance to hear their position on the issues before you vote for the next Mayor of Brookfield.

All three mayoral candidates were invited on Jan. 13, with an RSVP requested by Jan. 24. So far Cindy Kilkenny has accepted our invitation to attend. Because the Public Forum submission deadline is Jan. 23, I still have not heard directly from the other two.

According to the Jan. 19th Milwaukee_Journal_Article, Mayor Jeff Speaker said “he would not do any debates before the primary. ‘After the primary, I’ll do debates’, he said”.

Thomas Schellinger, our district’s alderman, was quoted, “It depends on what it is, if it fits into my campaign schedule.”

Both men participated in debates held in 2002,

I polled our membership to see if they wanted to proceed with the forum with only one confirmed candidate. The majority thought it would still be worth while with one or two candidates present, indicating that some information was better than no information. They do hope the others will decide to participate after all.

The Feb. 21st Primary Election is fast approaching. Currently, no other Candidate Forums or Debates are scheduled before then. I encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity to meet the candidates; what better way to exercise democracy on a local level.

Though not necessary, a R.S.V.P would be helpful. If you have any questions, please email to and send in those questions for the candidate!

Hope to see you at the Forum.
