Wisconsin April 7, 2015 Election Conservative Picks: Yes, Daley, Farrow, Maxwell, Bugenhagen & more
Listed below are my Tuesday, April 7th spring election picks. They are primarily geared to races Brookfield voters, who live in Waukesha County, would be interested in. For more Waukesha County races as well as many other Wisconsin County's ballot choices, check out the Wisconsin Conservative Voter Guide to the Elections on April 7, 2015 web page for the "best available choices." You may look up your sample ballot
at myvote.wi.gov and also find your voting location. Remember, the polls are open from 7am to 8pm.
If you think there is nothing much on Tuesday's ballot; think again. There are 2 very important ballot choices that all Wisconsin voters may weigh in on. These alone should get you to the polls. They are:
JUSTICE OF THE [WISCONSIN] SUPREME COURT: JAMES DALEY
The term is 10 years. I am choosing James Daley over incumbent Ann Walsh Bradley; he is the far better choice. If you rejoiced over hearing Wisconsin's Voter ID law would finally be implemented last month, my guess is you are for James Daley too? (To refresh your memory, Flashback: Justice Ann Walsh Bradley Attempted to Block Voter ID Law "Justice Bradley sided with Justice Abrahamson in two dissenting opinions")
STATEWIDE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT REFERENDUM: YES
This second state wide ballot question will decide how our State Supreme Court Chief Justice is chosen. All but 5 states allow their Supreme Court Justices to choose by electing who will serve as Chief Justice in this way. Wisconsin presently gives that position to the Justice who has been on the court the longest. All the referendum would change would be how Chief Justice is chosen: by election by serving justices if it passes or by seniority if it fails.
If the referendum question fails and Bradley is reelected, Bradley would be next in line to become Chief Justice when Chief Justice Abrahamson retires. Incidentally, Bradley opposes the referendum change.
There are more races on my Brookfield ballot, some are uncontested such as Jean Lambert and Scott Wheeler for Elmbrook School Board. The following are contested:
WAUKESHA COUNTY RACES
WAUKESHA COUNTY EXECUTIVE: PAUL FARROW (You didn't think I would pick my former Alderman, did you?)
WAUKESHA COUNTY JUDGE BRANCH 8: MIKE MAXWELL
WAUKESHA COUNTY JUDGE BRANCH 10: PAUL BUGENHAGEN
Both Branch 8 & 10 races are discussed in Incumbent judge faces challenge from young lawyer in Waukesha County
MENOMONEE FALLS VILLAGE PRESIDENT: JOE HELM
Though I do not live in Menomonee Falls, I have know Joe Helm for 15 years. He is a man of integrity and would be a great Village President. (If you need another reason, listen to what Mark Belling has to say.*)
If Waukesha County has a huge voter turnout, as they did in important past elections, we might be okay. If not, we miss an opportunity to change the character and leadership of our State Supreme Court.
*Thank you, Wisconsin Conservatives!
